The space for contemporary art bb15 presents “The Stag Without a Heart” by the British filmmaker and artist Stuart Croft, in conjunction with a solo exhibition. It is a looped 35mm film based on one of Aesop’s fables about betrayal, guilt , corruption and the enticement of power.

Stuart Croft‘s practice in film and video asks what the possibilities are for co-opting languages of the cinematic into the contemporary gallery space. Beyond this, his practice uses various strategies to investigate the conditions of recurrence, deception, power and desire. Croft works with a hybrid of analogue and digital technologies, merging high-end production techniques with the traditions of artists’ film to explore the contemporary collision of the dominant and critical image.
Stuart Croft (* 1970) lives and works in London. In 1998 he graduated from Chelsea College of Art,
London. Since then he has made 14 films and has shown his work in gallery spaces and contem-
porary art museums in over 20 countries to date, including: fACT, Liverpool; pS1-MoMA, New york;
Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney; Kunsthalle Luzern; fiedler Contemporary, Cologne; Galle-
ria Civica di Modena; Site Gallery, Sheffield; MuHKA, Antwerp and the Royal Academy, London.
